As a teenager in the 1950s I remember thinking, “Wow, black blood sure is powerful!” That’s when I found out that any trace of black ancestry made one a Negro in Louisiana. In 1970 the Louisiana legislature passed a law to take some folks off the hook. They said the if you could document having 1/32nd or less of black blood you would be considered white. That also documented if you had as little as 1/31nd you were black. Black blood still was clearly more powerful than white blood which apparently is pretty thin stuff.
I thought most of us were pretty much past that kind of jiggery pokery. Now we have senators and other public figures being called to task for playing in blackface sixty years ago. The power of black strikes again! Aren’t black lies more powerful than white lies? Is black magic more powerful than white magic? I betcha! Black Friday has become the biggest shopping day of the year. If you’re a “black belt,” you’re really smokin!’
I don’t think we’ll ever get this mess straightened out! And, black lives do matter.
